It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Sri Lanka Hypertension Society website.

Hypertension remains one of the most important and modifiable risk factors contributing to cardiovascular disease, stroke, chronic kidney disease, heart failure, and premature mortality worldwide. In Sri Lanka, the burden of elevated blood pressure continues to rise alongside urbanisation, lifestyle changes, population ageing, and the increasing prevalence of obesity, diabetes, and other non-communicable diseases. Despite the availability of effective treatments, many individuals remain undiagnosed, untreated, or inadequately controlled, leading to preventable complications and healthcare costs.

The Sri Lanka Hypertension Society is committed to addressing these challenges through education, research, advocacy, and professional collaboration. Our mission is to promote excellence in hypertension prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term cardiovascular risk reduction while supporting healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, and the public in achieving better blood pressure control across the country.

During the current term, the Society aims to strengthen national awareness programmes, expand professional training initiatives, support multicentre research collaborations, and promote evidence-based practice in hypertension management. We are also exploring innovative approaches including digital health technologies, home blood pressure monitoring, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, and artificial intelligence-assisted solutions that have the potential to transform hypertension care in the future.

The fight against hypertension cannot be won by healthcare professionals alone. It requires a collective effort involving patients, families, communities, healthcare institutions, academic bodies, government agencies, and international partners. Through collaboration and shared commitment, we can reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease and improve the health and wellbeing of our population.

I invite you to engage with the activities of the Sri Lanka Hypertension Society, contribute to our initiatives, and join us in our vision of a healthier Sri Lanka with better blood pressure control for all.

I extend my sincere appreciation to all past presidents, council members, advisors, collaborators, and members whose dedication has strengthened the Society over the years. Together, let us continue to advance hypertension care, research, and education for the benefit of our nation.

Message From The Past President of ISH

As a past-President of the International Society of Hypertension, I’m delighted to see individual countries developing their own hypertension societies. Having several on-going collaborations with friends & colleagues in Sri Lanka, it is a particular pleasure for me to wish the Sri Lanka Hypertension Society every success in the fight against raised BP in Sri Lanka.

I hope the launch of your superb website will help to boost these endeavours! Meanwhile – my very best wishes to all the members of the Sri Lanka Hypertension Society.
